Import Car into UK

So you have decided to move to the UK from abroad and to import your car into the UK.

Forward planning in this situation is highly recommended as organising the transition of your car is a challenge. You’ll want it taken care of during it’s journey by boat, train or plane. To get it here you’ll need to complete a variety of documents, and potentially complete physical changes to your car, before hitting the open road.

To bring your car into the UK you’ll need to prove to the DVLA, the government department in charge of regulating road traffic in Britain, that you are yourself eligible for right of entry into the country.

What is required, normally allowing for your own right of entry and work-permit. You car has up to six months to make some material changes for use on British roads. You must notify the Internal Revenue department HMRC within 14 days of arrival in the UK of the motor car. There may also be customs duties payable.
